Sustainability is one of Hey Hi Hello’s core value’s, and is present in everything we do. We understand that purchasing new products and gifts is inherently a strain on environmental resources, no matter where you shop. That being said, we strive to provide a gifting experience that minimizes impact wherever it can, starting with our packaging.

Recyclable packaging, compostable tissue

Recyclable and Compostable Packaging

Hey. Hi. Hello! packaging is recyclable and in some cases home compostable. Our labels, stickers, and tissue paper use non-toxic water-based coatings and inks to improve biodegradability, and are printed on FSC-Certified paper. Our boxes and filling are 100% recyclable, while our ribbons are reusable, and we encourage you to save them for future gifts! Scroll down to learn more about how to dispose of (or reuse!) each piece.

What do I do with the box?

Hey Hi Hello boxes can be placed directly in the recycle bin with labels still attached. Please make sure to remove all filling, tissue, and additional product packaging, and recycle them separately. Save ribbon for future use.

Does your box still look to be in good condition? Why not save it to re-wrap a future gift, or use it to store your favorite keepsakes! Tab lock boxes are endlessly useful, and ours are pretty sturdy if we don’t mind saying so!

How about the void fill (crinkle paper)?

Our void fill is both recyclable and compostable (add it to your worm bin!) We recommend that if you plan on recycling it, that you place it in a brown paper bag before putting it in your recycling bin. This will keep the squiggles from flying everywhere when your bin is emptied (and will make you a lot more popular with your garbage collector).

What’s the deal with your tissue and stickers?

Fear not! Worms also love our tissue paper (it’s made with FSC-certified, acid free paper and printed with soy-based inks). It is home compostable and 100% recyclable (even with the sticker attached). So whether you are looking to add it to your compost bin or put it in your recycle bin, it works both ways. Just don’t put it in the waste bin if you can avoid it.

What about notecards?

We’re glad you asked. All of our notecards are 100% recyclable.

The ribbon, tell us what to do with the ribbon!

We wish we could tell you that ribbons can be recycled or composted but we can’t. The truth is fabric is very hard to dispose of sustainably, and the best thing you can do is reuse it. So that is what we suggest you do! Put it in your hair, use it to wrap another gift, or save it to tie around a bottle of wine for a friend. A beautiful ribbon is a handy thing to have around, so we suggest you save it for a rainy day use!
